Mark Murphy, tenor
Canadian tenor E. Mark Murphy has a Bachelor of Music degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Music degree from Boston University. He also is an alumnus of the International Opera Studio of the Zürich Opera.

He has performed with such North America opera companies as Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Boston, Cape Cod Opera, Commonwealth Opera, The Raylynmor Opera as well as several roles with the Boston University Opera Programmes.

With the Zürich Opera he performed in Il Trovatore (Messo), Katerina Ismailowa (Nihilist and Kutscher), Poulenc's Les Mamelles de Tirésias (Lacouf) as well as in Martinu's Die Heirat (Zewakin).

Additional European venues include singing the title role in Stravinski's Renard with TM+ Ensemble in Paris.

E. Mark Murphy was engaged by the Landesbühnen Sachsen (near Dresden) for two years, after which he moved to Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Repertoire in Gelsenkirchen has included Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Bob Boles and Rev. Horace Adams (Peter Grimes), Spirit of the Masque (Gloriana), Tanzmeister and Scaramuccio (Ariadne auf Naxos), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte), Gastone (La Traviata), Sigismund Sülzheimer (Im weißen Rößl), Peter Ivanov (Zar und Zimmermann). He sang as a guest in Aalto-Theater Essen as Robert in Das Feuerwerk as well as in the Opernhaus Münster in La Traviata.

E. Mark Murphy is a sought after concert artist, singing such works as the Evangelista in Bach's Matthäus Passion, Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Orff's Carmina Burana, and Haydn's Creation with organizations including the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, I Musici de Montréal, and the Orford Festival Orchestra.

Solo recital venues have included those in France, Germany, Canada, and the United States, as well as at the Mlada Praha International Music Festival in Prague, CZ.

Mr. Murphy has taken Second Prize in the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Singing Competition in 2000, and was a Top Ten Finalist in the 2006 First International Ernst Haefliger Singing Competition in Switzerland.
